The Economy and Gaming

As everybody knows, the economic data for the near future looks pretty bad. We are heading - fast - into a recession. However, in addition, there is a lot of "doom and gloom". To my mind, noone right now really knows what will happen.

I believe that companies primarily catering to the core gamers won´t be hurt much. For quite a few people gaming is their "hobby #1" and will remain so. If there is an outstanding new game, they will purchase.

Athough I do not own a crystal ball, I think that the family gaming market will be hurt a little bit harder. To families, games are not "must haves" but mainly an item for "consumption."

However, maybe I´m entirely wrong - gaming is an inexpensive hobby that brings together the whole family (or a bunch of friends) around a table instead of e.g., going to the movies,
