Last weekend I had the chance to play Advanced Civilization by Francis Tresham, released in the early 80ties, for the first time in probably 15 years.
Yes, the game is long. Yes, it is "procedure heavy". Yes, it needs at least five players to be enjoyable.
Despite all this, it was an excellent gaming experience. Time was flying and you never felt like playing for hours. Each empire or civilization starts small, with just a single game piece on the board. In a most elegant way the players will learn the complexities of the game during play by this and can concentrate on empire building (or cursing about calamities...).
A great game that still feels fresh after all these years!
